The National Health Index (NHI) number is a unique identifier assigned to everyone who uses healthcare services in New Zealand. This number links a person's health information across all health care settings in the country including primary care, hospitals, and pharmacies.
The NHI number is a 7-character alphanumeric code. It has a special format and includes a check digit to help ensure that the number is entered correctly.
This tool allows you to quickly validate NHI numbers. Once you've entered the NHI number, it will tell you if it is valid or not.
The validation runs locally in your browser and no data is sent to the server.
